Why kaolin, and not bentonite
Kaolin is the gentlest of the cosmetic clays. Bentonite swells in water, is strongly alkaline at pH 8 to 10, and absorbs far more oil, which suits genuinely oily skin but often leaves everyone else feeling tight.
Our kaolin tests at pH 6.8, close to skin's own 5.5. It has a fine, platy particle structure and absorbs slowly. That is why it suits dry, sensitive and redness-prone skin that reacts badly to harsher masks, and why it can be used two to three times a week rather than once.
Why a primary deposit matters
Kaolin comes from two kinds of deposit. Primary kaolin stays where it formed. Secondary kaolin has been washed downstream and redeposited, collecting organic material on the way.
Ours is primary. It comes out of the ground clean rather than needing to be cleaned up to get there.

How to use
Add 2 level spoons of clay to your mixing bowl with 1 spoon of water (2:1 ratio). Let the water absorb for 60 seconds, then knead into a creamy paste. Add 1 small spoon of Matcha or Hibiscus, apply with the brush, and relax for 10 to 15 minutes.
Do not let the mask fully dry. Once a clay mask cracks it has stopped absorbing oil and started drawing moisture out of your skin, which is where most irritation from clay masks comes from. Take it off while it is still slightly tacky. Massage off in the shower with warm water.

Our kaolin is supplied by WA Kaolin Limited, an ASX-listed Australian producer, from their Wickepin operation in Western Australia. Testing is verified by independent laboratory analysis.
