Getting Started

How do I make my first face mask?

Set up your space first. Light a candle, make a tea, put on some relaxing music. This is your time. Then add 2 level spoons of Kaolin clay to your mixing bowl. Add 1 spoon of water and let it absorb for about 60 seconds before kneading into a creamy paste with the back of your mixing spoon. Add 1 small spoon of Matcha (calming and soothing) or Hibiscus (firming and anti-aging), stir slowly to an even colour and texture, then apply generously with the application brush. Relax for 10 to 15 minutes. Do not let the mask fully dry. In the shower or bath, gently massage the clay into your skin with wet hands and rinse off with warm water.

What is the right mixing ratio?

The ratio of clay to water is 2:1. For a face-only treatment use 2 large spoons of Kaolin clay and 1 spoon of water. For face and décolletage, use 3 large spoons of clay and 1.5 spoons of water. Getting the ratio right gives you a smooth, creamy paste rather than something too thick or too watery.

Why do I need to wait 60 seconds before mixing?

Letting the water absorb into the clay for 60 seconds before you mix is the secret to a smooth, creamy paste. Rushing straight into mixing can leave lumps. After 60 seconds, use the back of your mixing spoon to gently knead everything together. Take your time with this step.

How often should I use the mask?

Once or twice a week is ideal for most skin types. Let your skin guide you. If it feels great, keep going. If it feels a little sensitive, dial back to once a week. You can also vary which secondary ingredient you use depending on how your skin is feeling on any given day.

Is this suitable for complete beginners?

Absolutely. If you can mix two things in a bowl, you can do this. Each bundle comes with a full mixing tool set and a step-by-step method. No experience is required.

Kaolin Clay

What is Kaolin Clay and why is it good for skin?

Kaolin is a naturally occurring mineral clay that has been used in skincare for generations. It is one of the gentlest clays available, making it suitable for all skin types including sensitive and acne-prone skin. It gently draws out impurities, excess oil, and toxins without stripping away the skin's natural moisture barrier. The result is cleaner, clearer, softer skin with minimised pores and a brighter complexion over time.

Where does your Kaolin Clay come from?

Our kaolin clay is sourced from the world-class mineral deposits of Western Australia, where it is processed from pure primary kaolin ore to pharmaceutical grade. It is 100% natural and free from organic contaminants.

Is Kaolin Clay safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. Kaolin is one of the mildest clays available and is widely used in products formulated specifically for sensitive skin. Unlike harsher clays such as bentonite, kaolin does not over-dry the skin and is gentle enough for regular use without causing irritation.

What is the difference between Kaolin Clay and Bentonite Clay?

Both are natural clays but they work quite differently. Bentonite has a stronger drawing action and can be quite drying, making it better suited to very oily skin types. Kaolin is much gentler. It cleanses and purifies without stripping the skin's natural oils, which is why it is suitable for all skin types including sensitive and dry skin. All Eliézer Clay face mask recipes use Australian Kaolin Clay as the base ingredient.

Matcha

What does Matcha do for skin?

Matcha is rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin against environmental stressors and free radical damage. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and calm reactive or acne-prone skin. In a face mask, matcha works to detoxify, brighten, and improve skin texture and tone, promoting a more even complexion over time.

Why do you use culinary-grade Matcha rather than cosmetic grade?

Culinary-grade matcha is produced under strict food safety standards, which means it is pure, clean, and free from additives. It contains the same active compounds as cosmetic-grade matcha but at a higher purity standard. We source our matcha from farms that use ethical harvesting practices.

Which bundles include Matcha?

Matcha is the key ingredient in our Calming Bundle, which is specifically designed for acne-prone, red, or sensitive skin. It is also included in the Essentials Bundle and Deluxe Bundle, where you can choose between Matcha and Hibiscus depending on what your skin needs.

Hibiscus

What does Hibiscus Powder do for skin?

Hibiscus contains natural alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that gently exfoliate the skin by dissolving dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. This makes it excellent for reducing the appearance of fine lines, improving elasticity, and brightening dull skin. It also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help even skin tone and maintain moisture balance.

What are natural AHAs and why do they matter?

AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) are naturally occurring acids found in plants and fruits that gently exfoliate the skin's surface. Unlike synthetic chemical exfoliants, the AHAs in hibiscus work gradually and gently, making them well suited to regular use. Over time, they help reveal fresher, smoother skin and reduce the visible signs of ageing.

Is your Hibiscus Powder certified organic?

Yes. Our Hibiscus Powder is ACO (Australian Certified Organic) and USDA Certified Organic.

Which bundles include Hibiscus?

Hibiscus is the key ingredient in our Firming Bundle, designed for fine lines, dull skin, and anti-aging. It is also included in the Essentials Bundle and Deluxe Bundle.

Jojoba Oil

What is Jojoba Oil and why is it used in skincare?

Jojoba is not technically an oil. It is a liquid wax that closely resembles the skin's own natural sebum, making it exceptionally compatible with all skin types including oily and acne-prone skin. It moisturises deeply without blocking pores, soothes irritation, and helps maintain the skin's natural moisture barrier. After a clay mask, jojoba oil restores hydration and leaves skin nourished, balanced, and smooth.

Can I use Jojoba Oil if I have oily or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Because jojoba's molecular structure closely mimics the skin's natural sebum, it can actually help regulate oil production rather than adding to it. It is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not block pores, which makes it a popular choice for oily and breakout-prone skin.

How do I use Jojoba Oil with my face mask?

Jojoba Oil can be used two ways. You can blend a few drops directly into your clay paste before application for extra nourishment during the treatment. Or use it as a finishing step: after rinsing off the mask and letting your skin dry, press 2 to 3 drops gently into your skin to complete the ritual. The Jojoba Oil is included in the Deluxe Bundle and is also available to purchase separately.

Bundles

What is the difference between the four bundles?

All four bundles include Kaolin Clay, a mixing tool set (mixing bowl, mixing spoon, large and small measuring spoons, and application brush), a calico storage bag, and a complimentary soft cotton headband. The difference is in the secondary ingredients:

  • Deluxe Bundle ($129): Kaolin, Matcha, Hibiscus, and Jojoba Oil. The most complete kit with three recipe options and a natural finishing moisturiser. Free shipping.
  • Essentials Bundle ($109): Kaolin, Matcha, and Hibiscus. Full recipe choice without the Jojoba Oil. Free shipping.
  • Calming Bundle ($89): Kaolin and Matcha. Best for acne-prone, sensitive, or reactive skin. Free shipping.
  • Firming Bundle ($84): Kaolin and Hibiscus. Best for fine lines, dull skin, and anti-aging. Free shipping.

How many face mask treatments are in each bundle?

Each bundle contains enough ingredients for between 12 and 18 treatments, depending on whether you apply to face only or face and décolletage. Used once or twice a week, a bundle typically lasts around 3 months. That works out to under $11 per treatment for the Deluxe Bundle and under $6 per treatment for the Calming and Firming Bundles.

How long do the ingredients last once opened?

The dry ingredients (Kaolin Clay, Matcha Powder, and Hibiscus Powder) should be stored in a cool, dry place away from moisture and will keep well for 12 months or more. The Jojoba Oil is shelf-stable for 12 months once opened. No refrigeration is needed for any of the ingredients.

Can I mix Matcha and Hibiscus together in one mask?

Absolutely. Each ingredient works beautifully on its own, but there are endless combinations to explore. Use Matcha alone for a calming, soothing treatment, Hibiscus alone for firming and exfoliating, or blend both together for a treatment that addresses multiple skin concerns at once. What Makes Eliézer Clay Different

Why don't your products contain preservatives?

Because you blend fresh. Every mask is prepared immediately before use by blending dry ingredients with water. Because nothing is pre-mixed or pre-hydrated, there is no environment for bacteria or mould to grow, which means preservatives simply are not needed. This is one of the key advantages of the DIY approach: completely natural skincare with no compromise on safety or efficacy.

What makes Eliézer Clay different from other face masks?

Most face masks are pre-mixed products in jars or tubes that require preservatives, emulsifiers, and synthetic ingredients to maintain stability and shelf life. Eliézer Clay takes a completely different approach: we provide pure, natural ingredients and you blend them fresh each time. No preservatives. No synthetic chemicals. No compromise. And the process of preparing your own mask, measuring, mixing, applying, is as restorative as the mask itself. Skincare that is also me-care.
