I've been a professional beauty therapist for over 20 years. I've always tried to look after my skin and have invested a LOT of money over the years on cleansers, serums, moisturisers, sunscreens and masks. I've been to, I don't know how many, training sessions on the latest formulations from the world's best skincare brands, and tried to learn what I can about the benefits of all the active ingredients I put on my skin. For the most part I've always felt pretty comfortable with the more expensive brands and have trusted the science and research.

But recently I have been doing a lot more research into natural skincare solutions. I've looked into chemical-free skincare alternatives for every part of my natural skincare regimen. As part of this quest, I specifically looked into natural skincare brands in Australia, and one product that kept popping up was Jojoba Oil.

After much research, I began testing different products and suppliers, reading countless blogs and articles to understand the science behind Jojoba Oil and why everybody raved about it as a natural moisturizer. So I set aside my expensive lab-based moisturiser and started trying Jojoba Oil. Here's what I discovered.

Why did I decide on Jojoba Oil?

Firstly, Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-HO-ba — Yep, I had to Google it as well) isn’t really an oil at all. It’s technically a wax ester that mimics your skin’s own sebum. That means it feels light on the skin, and helps balance your natural oil production. I was drawn to it because it ticked every box that I look for in a moisturiser. It's an organic skincare product (at least the ones I have sourced), it's non-comedogenic ( meaning it doesn't clog your pores, so it's better for acne-prone and oily skin ), and it's completely free of preservatives or synthetic additives.

Plus, the minimalist in me loved the idea of having one bottle replace multiple products in my routine.

The first few weeks...

I started slow — just a few drops at night on freshly cleansed skin. No fancy layering, no multi-step routine. Often when I change moisturizers, it takes a while for my skin to get used to it. I might experience breakouts or irritations. That didn't happen. Now I am lucky that my skin is generally pretty good and is not subject to redness and irritation. It's fair to say though that my skin is equally as good as it was with the most expensive products, and I am only using one single natural chemical-free  ingredient! I gave it to some of my friends to try - some with bad acne and some with sensitive skin. Even within the first couple of days, they noticed a difference in how their skin felt. It was calmer. Softer. Less “angry.” Their face looked... happier? There’s really no other word for it.

After a few weeks, my clients began commenting on how healthy my skin looked - and this was the only product in my daily routine that I had changed up until that point. I wasn’t needing to add extra moisturiser throughout the day either. This natural moisturiser was actually supporting my skin barrier, and seemed to work equally as well as the expensive moisturising cream that I usually used, with its dozens of active ingredients all trying to do the same job.

Minimalism Looks Good on My Skin

I meet so many women in my job who get overwhelmed by which products to use on their skin and when. It can be very anxiety-inducing! Some women just buy "one of everything!" Some women find the whole daily routine exhausting and second-guess themselves every time they have a breakout. (There are SO many factors that affect skin health by the way, and topical treatment alone won't give you a magical fix, especially for women.)

One thing that did feel good though, was that I wasn’t bombarding my face with a cocktail of chemicals. I was simply giving it what it needed — and nothing more. My morning and evening rituals became a lot simpler. Cleanse, tone (sometimes), a few drops of jojoba, and that’s it. What's more, it inspired me to look at the other parts of my skincare routine to see what simplifying those elements could do for me as well.

It slowly started to shift my whole philosophy on how to maintain healthy skin. I became more conscious of not just what I was putting on my skin, but what I was putting in my body. When you start to think about all the "bad stuff" you might be applying in the name of healthy skin, then you start to think about "chemical-free" EVERYTHING!

Minimalist skincare routines aren’t about doing less just for the sake of it. They’re about being intentional. And honestly, my skin has never felt more balanced or looked healthier now that I'm on this journey.

When I started Eliézer Clay, Jojoba Oil was my no-brainer choice for a natural, single-ingredient, chemical-free moisturiser. If you’re exploring natural skincare in Australia or looking to switch to a simplified, chemical-free skincare solution for yourself, then Jojoba Oil might just be what you've been looking for.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your skin is to stop trying so hard. Keep it simple. Keep it natural. And let your skin do what it was designed to do. Less is more.

Note: For a moisturiser, I personally now only use our Eliézer Clay Australian Golden Jojoba Oil — no added fragrance, no fillers, no preservatives.
